I wandered down to Austin, TX to shoot with Sarah, Kenny and their puppy Helga (who is one of the best behaved dogs I’ve ever met – until she confronts a squirrel). It was 105 in the scorching Texas heat but that didn’t stop us from having a little fun with the camera. Here’s a collection of a few of my favs from the day.
Seeing as to how 80% of Texas was on fire at the time of Mancation planning and the remaining 20% boring metropolises, the next best thing, at least in my book, given numerous variables – distance, weather, stupid gas pricesand fires, was the Ozark and Ouachita National Forests in Arkansas.
Packed the highschool friend, the tent, a wide variety of cutting tools ranging from SOG, CRKT and Benchmade to Gerber and Victorinox, water proof matches, an assortment of surefire and phoenix flashlights and the 5D mk ii into Kate and her 5.7L V8 and off I went.
Multiple near death experiences, a little off roading, an annoying raccoon, near snake bite and a case of corona later, here is proof that Arkansas has a lot to offer.
Apologies for the lack of photos. Had Johnny Molloy, author of “Explorer’s Guide 50 Hikes in the Ozarks: Walks, Hikes, and Backpacks in the Mountains, Wildernesses, and Geological Wonders of Arkansas and Missouri,” been less of an @$$Clown, I would have spent more time taking photos rather than following his useless book that is inaccurate regarding trail distances, trail landmarks, trail terrain and things to do on the trail.
Was winding down for bed tonight and decided to go through a few shots that I took on my trip to Big Sur last year. I have to say that entire trip may have topped the charts on things I’ve done in my life. Granted I was only AT Big Sur for roughly a day (which I totally lucked out on weather wise), the rest of the trip was complete by friends, beautiful drives, the open road, and my 50D.
I realize I haven’t posted very much from that trip (processing is a pain sometimes). Here’s stuff I processed last year.
Note to self: Do this again. Over and over again.
There are certain memories in life that should never be forgotten. A friend recently asked me to be apart of his proposal to his fiance on a weekend they were in Austin. It was an amazing experience to be apart of and witness the ‘popping of the question’ and the ever anticipated ‘yes.’ It was cold and rainy the entire weekend, which put a damper on the mood (pun intended), but the rain stopped just in time for their special moment. The following morning, I took the couple to Gordoughs for a final Austin-y thing to remember. While we were there, the clouds finally parted and the skies opened up. I wanted to capture the couple’s emotions as they were still fresh, so I took mother nature’s cue and whipped out the camera. Here’s undeniable proof that sometimes those overwhelmingly happy days do happen to the best of us.
